About Us

Welcome to Rocky Mountain Snipe Fleet 210, the most active racing fleet at Union Sailing Club in Longmont, Colorado!

Rocky Mountain Snipe Fleet is committed to supporting Snipe sailing in the Longmont / Boulder / Denver area.  The fleet consists of ~20 boats, hosts several  events annually and supports its members to race locally as well as within Snipe District 2.

The Snipe Class has been an International Class since the 1930’s. For more information about the Snipe and it’s class, visit the US Snipe Class website and/or the International Snipe Class website.

Snipe Racing

The primary focus of the Rocky Mountain Snipe Fleet is to support Snipe racing at Union Reservoir. Union Sailing Club hosts races for all club fleets Sunday afternoons from April through October and Wednesday evenings from May through September. These are casual multiple-class races open to anyone: newcomers, seasoned veterans and juniors.  Races usually last about 20-30 minutes and the atmosphere amongst competitors is laid back.

Union Sailing Club also hosts two regattas during the summer season. The ReUnion Regatta is a two-day, one-design regatta held in June and the Oktoberfest regatta is a Saturday, one-design regatta held in September. Racing is more competitive at these events and trophies are awarded to the top teams. This is a good opportunity to practice one-design Snipe racing against a larger number of boats.

Every year, Snipe Fleet 210 hosts the Rocky Mountain Snipe Championship in September. This event attracts some of the best Snipe sailors in District 2. Teams travel from Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. This year the Rocky Mountain Snipe Championship will be a qualifier for the 2021 Snipe Worlds in Japan.

In addition, members of the Rocky Mountain Snipe fleet are active in traveling to regattas regionally and around the country.  Regular summer road trips include regattas in Dallas (TX), Lincoln (NE), Bow Mar (CO), Aspen (CO), Wichita (KS) and Council Bluffs (IA).

During the winter months there are more opportunities to race the Snipe, examples include the Mid-Winter Circuit in Florida and the Bahamas, the Halloween regatta in Atlanta and the Las Vegas regatta in San Diego.

Social Activities

The Rocky Mountain Snipe Fleet lives up to the Snipe Class motto of “Serious Sailing, Serious Fun.” Snipe Class members are friendly and welcoming, making newcomers feel right at home.

Our fleet has access to multiple double trailers, allowing us to caravan together to regional regattas. Members also host parties or organize get-togethers on a regular basis. Come out and see what we are all about!

Fleet Development

Our Fleet will host a tune-up and rigging day in the Spring. Members are encouraged to attend to get everyone on the same playing field. We will also be holding several racing / sailing clinics during the Summer to improve our Snipe expertise.

We support anyone to come out and try the Snipe, whether they are new to sailing or have been sailing for decades. Members will even assist in the search for local or regional Snipes for purchase.
